| Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal today met mobile operators to discuss the National Broadband Plan, which aims at providing high-speed Internet access and e-governance services to over 160 million people by 2014. The meeting was attended by representatives of various operators as well as telecom industry lobby groups COAI and AUSPI. Source | |

| InMobi, the world's largest independent mobile ad network, today revealed that the Indian mobile ad market grew by 1.5 billion ad impressions (27%) between October 2010 and January 2011. The finding is part of InMobi's January 2011 Mobile Insights Report – India Market, the largest monthly report of its kind. Commenting on the study, James Lamberti, VP Global Research & Marketing at InMobi, says: "2011 has initiated a massive global consumer transition to high-quality smart devices. This trend will define the next phase of mobile advertising growth for InMobi with smart phone impressions becoming the majority of our inventory globally." Source | |

| With 59 per cent market share, Nokia continues to be the top manufacturer in India, followed by Samsung with 24 per cent impression share. These two competitors account for 83 per cent of total impressions served in the Indian mobile market–and are followed by Sony Ericsson, LG and Micromax. | Some of India's leading mobile telephony operators are apprehensive that their grand plans to combine resources to offer nationwide third-generation, or 3G, services may run into a regulatory roadblock — if the watchdog takes a different interpretation of existing norms around roaming, when applied to data services. While Idea Cellular believes that intra-circle roaming is already prevalent in 2G and has explicit permission in the existing regulatory framework, another large carrier that features among the top three operators in the country, said that any such pact or agreement among operators for 3G spectrum sharing would require regulatory nod.
